    2017 New Years Resolutions

    Its that time of the year and was starting up this thread for things we plan on doing for a week and forget about, I mean new years resolutions. Part way through the year, we forget what we had actually set as goals, and its nice actually looking up what we said to see if we actually did any of them, lol.

    What's your new year's resolutions?
    Mine's just to finish my workshop, not to blow anything up again (except on purpose), finish my new workshop steam engine, restore the lathe, and actually spend more time in the shop this year.

    I've always struggled with the concept of new years resolutions.

    It seems to be a mechanism for putting stuff off.

    If you have some thing you'd like to start, do or stop then remember the rest of your life starts right now.

    Please note the coincidence of this being new years day, it applies equally to any time you think of doing whatever it is you'd like to do.

    Happy new year to one and all.

    +1 watermark.
    The difference between a resolution and a decision is action, and action can only happen now.

    Happy New Year to all!

    I have held firm to a resolution I made about 20 years ago.

    "I will not make any more New Year's resolutions"

    I can never quite stay on track with them, but I do try to set some goals.

    1. Cull myself down to A FEW hobbies, and since I'm trying on this board, you what ONE of them is. ;-)
    2. CLEAR OUT my workspaces so I can DO my few hobbies. I am a rampant dumpster diver and that has to stop.
    3. Hike more
    4. Love the wife more and more
    5. Quit the drinking

    That said. I would like to wish everyone a wonderful New Year and thank everyone for helping get into this metal insanity!

    The biggest resolution of my life was made on April 4, 1974. (wedding vows) Another was July 13, 1992. (quit smoking) Only one made on New Years day was to never do that again. (involved a quart of peppermint schnaps) I make the important ones when they are needed.
    Enjoy the new year!
    What is that squeaking noise?

    A thought on why resolutions normally fail in the end is that they are only a staring point.....

    Resolution = wish or idea
    goal = wish + hope
    goal + total definition and evaluation (pondering) = belief
    Belief + action = faith
    faith = results
    results + evaluation = knowledge
    knowledge + application = progression

    progression is what life is all about
