    A couple of pics of the vertical slide.
    This is an adaptation of a manual slide. The slide is a cheap copy of a "Myford" vertical slide. Poor choice on my part . It was badly manufactured and quite a way out of square. Had to spend much time correcting the errors before it was fit for purpose. Should have got the genuine Myford version in the first place.
    The processs of adapting it for CNC was fairly straight forward. New leadscrew 10 x 2mm trapizoidal, leadnut in Nylatron. This was a nice snug fit. The weight of the slide and spindle assembly keep the leadnut preloaded against the leadscrew so did not need a backlash eliminator.
    The stepper motor and leadscrew bearing support was machined from a single casting that screwed onto the moving slide in place of the original manual arangement.

    The bearings are locked into position by half splitting the casting and clamping with a M6 socket head bolt. You can see the counterbore for this clamping bolt in the pics above.
    This assembly was all machined out on the "sister" Zyto manual lathe.

    Quick update to complete

    Here is a close up of the split through the casting to the bore for the bearings. the clamp bolt is down inside the counterbore.

    And the carrier being machined. It was a bit of a pain as I had to make (cast and machine) a custom faceplate and then drill the clamping screw holes with the offset from the centre to get the bearing bore in the correct position relative to the leadnut position on the fixed part of the slide assembly.

    That's about it so far for the 3Axis mill workings. I have yet to complete the 4thAxis. The lathe configuration, although operational is yet to be tested and run.

    I'll post up a couple of pics of what it has done machineing wise sometime soon... I finally got around to doing the Wall plaque patten

    Update

    A brief pic of the pattern and first casting attempt.
    The final version of the pattern came out well. It's about 160mm long and cut to a depth of 1.8mm.
    The casting came out a little short. I'll have another go at that when I get some time and space. It's a bit thin so does not fill easily.

    I also had a V quick go at running in lathe mode, just to check it out. This is just a sample gcode off the web of a chess piece in wood. That ran OK as expected, but I don't currently have anything much that I need CNCing lathe wise. (pic is a bit blurry, sorry....)

    I have yet to complete the 4th rotary axis and also the full overhead modes.....
