Thread: CNC troubleshooting

  1. #11
It's where i left it last time. Two motors worked fine and one didn't. Problem now is i need to set up a new computer cause mach3 doesn't support win8 and i can't even get them to move.
I found that trying to find what I need and then make it work with what I have, is more trouble than designing what I want and doing it.

Finally found my problem, It wasn't the cable, it was the plug on the board, one pin wasn't connecting. I bypassed it and it's working.

I'm running on XP also. I didn't bring mine in for the winter a couple years ago and it quit working. Found a computer guy on e-bay and he built one for me pretty cheap I think it was $40, including shipping. Now a local person had a whole XP set up for $50 so I bought it for back up. It's like a new computer and has the best monitor I've ever had. Finding computers with the 26 pin printer cable is getting harder. I guess some are using a USB but I'm not sure if it's a good.

Did you leave it out in the snow!

Your not wrong there, I also have a backup stashed away. I have heard that you can use USB but it has to go through a box thing to convert things.... I have no idea how to do that (but it would be good to find out.)

I have a USB to LPT adaptor here somewere which seemed to work fine (On a printer). Given USB is serial and the voltages wildy different I'll have to try and find it and see what's in it.
